Week 9 Peer Relationships

Posted on March 23, 2008

Peer relationships are such an interesting topic for me in my job. As Tim said, it's one of the most important things, but often gets little attention. My own work with kids often has little focus on peer relationships.

The process of creating a peer relationship plan was very helpful and got me thinking about all the things we are already doing, and could be doing to foster peer relationships. While I have completed the COACH process with most of my kids, and parents seem to almost always identify relationships as a priority, little time is usually devoted to this.

If you think about it...Ultimately, life is about relationships. So I think its only reasonable that we devote as much time to fostering relationships as we do teaching all the other "stuff" that we deem important.

Erin,
In high school it is all about relationships. They are learning/practicing the skills they need to get along with others in the future. I think about this a lot at school. I know how important relationships are in my life. My friends help to make my life special. I want that for my students too.
