Vermont I-Team & ISE Endorsement Program News

The Vermont State I-Team is a State funded team of professionals and parents who provide consultative services to educators and families of students with intensive educational needs including severe multiple disabilities, dual sensory impairments and autism. The Intensive Special Education (ISE) Endorsement Program is a 24-credit course sequence which will result in participants earning an endorsement in Intensive Special Education to add to their Vermont Special Education License.

Matching AAC Supports to Students – Thursday, November 17th
See the range of tools from no-tech to high-tech that are available as part of an augmentative communication system. Identify the personal skills that are important for communication and look at specific tools that might be a good match for your student(s).

Topic Boards and Communication Books - Thursday, December 8th
We will discuss the difference between topic boards and communication books and how to determine which is best for your student. Learn how to select appropriate vocabulary, individualize pages and arrange content into a useable format. See a wide range of examples and get ideas for creative uses of these tools.

How to Create and Use Visual Supports - Thursday, January 19th
See how schedules, mini-schedules, and self-management tools can help your students work independently and successfully. See a wide range of examples and get ideas for creative uses of these tools.

BoardMaker Make-It Take It – Thursday, March 30th
You will have access to BoardMaker software and individualized instruction in specific BoardMaker functions. Participants view the range of samples on display for ideas of different supports then create their own personalized versions of these boards and books. The session is completely hands-on and self-paced for a range of skill levels. (Windows version used)

Implementation of AAC Supports – Thursday, May 18th
Learn how to structure the student’s environment to increase communication success by identifying appropriate intervention targets, choosing appropriate contexts, and defining partner’s roles.
